The rain in Spain ... not only on the plain today!
The day started with thunder and monsoon type rain that just falls like a curtain of enormous drops. It's interesting how, coming from a rainy country originally, this rain feels so different. It's probably because the land and the trees need it so badly after a long and hot summer. One can almost hear nature's sigh of relief.
For us at La Tierra it is a great opportunity to observe the natural flow of the water on the land. With big differences in altitude and the law of gravity combined, water will always go to the lowest point. Water management i.e. catchment is one of the primary principles of permaculture design. The best place to store water is in the ground., Swales, for instance, are a great way to slow down the water flow to make sure it doesn't run off your land.
So Paul took off this morning in his wellies and returned an hour later drenched but happy. So much water and so many ways to save water and future irrigation for hot summers.
